Global Asian consumer electronics producer interested in using a new version of JonDeTech’s IR sensor

10 July, 2019

[Stockholm, Sweden, July 18, 2019.] The IR sensor manufacturer JonDeTech has received an inquiry from a global CE producer about the possibility to further develop into a customised version of JonDeTech’s IR sensor. The target application shall be detecting presence and temperature in a product aimed for the consumer market. The modified sensor from JonDeTech will be a crucial component to solve the two functions.

JonDeTech’s IR-sensor, the world’s thinnest, can be integrated in a variety of applications in detecting presence and contactless measuring temperature on surfaces. Since the sensor is produced mainly from plastic, the sensor is durable and very flexible. These are the specific characteristics and functions that have made the Asian producer interested in the technology. In order to implement the sensor into the product it has to be shaped in a new, not yet proven, way to be optimized for the application.

“With the vertical composition of the JonDeTech sensor and that it is produced in plastic, we have the possibility to change the shape and character in the production process. Now we try this in a large scale for the first time,” said Per Lindeberg, CEO at JonDeTech.

The modified sensor will most probably also be of interest for other companies in the market JonDeTech is targeting. Evaluation of the new version is currently on going and the first results are expected in the end of the summer.

“This is an interesting test on the sensor’s flexibility, when it comes to shape and size,” said Leif Borg, COO at JonDeTech. “It is truly inspiring to put the organization up to the test on how to adapt the sensors physical measures to fit into specific electronic products. We have always claimed that the sensor could be produced in different shapes and sizes, but to do this and still maintain the signal strength is a challenge. But at the moment we are positive about the project as well as we will succeed.”
