The pilot line started at Hofstetter AG

13 June, 2022

On May 27, JonDeTech published that the Pilot line for nanowire plating was in place at Hofstetter's subsidiary SMF&More. We can now announce that we have completed functional tests and processed the first panels with the first of the two metals required to create our unique sensor element.

After the installation was completed in week 20, some critical adjustments were made in week 21. In week 22, we were able to start up the facility with sharp panels. On site were engineers from JonDeTech, Schlötter and Hofstetter.

  • Based on the tests we carried out in the spring in A5 format, we were as planned able to start up the A3 format in the Pilot line with good prerequisites. A3 format is the standard size in the PCB industry.
  • In terms of results, it looks promising. A functioning production process where we can visually see a high uniformity across the panel.
  • The process control worked well, and in the future we have far more technical possibilities for fine-tuning than we previously had in the in-house developed machine.
  • Operationally, the responsibility will initially be shared between JonDeTech and SMF&More, with JonDeTech now putting a lot of focus on training local staff within SMF&More so that they can then handle all operational parts under their own auspices.

What does the status look like right now?

During week 23, the first series of 12 panels was completed. These are now sent down to Varioprint so they can be prepared for the other metal involved in the process, Metal B.

In parallel, Schlötter is now working on evaluating the appropriate adjustment of the recipe for Metal B. The plan is for them to be ready to start plating together with JonDeTech, SMF&More and Varioprint with the adjusted recipe during week 25–26.

During week 22, we were down at Varioprint and discussed how the plan should look going forward. With the good progress we now have in both panel formats (A5/A3), we will frequently start up new panels to begin the fine-tuning of recipe parameters needed when we establish ourselves in new equipment.

When initial adjustment is completed and we start getting working sensor elements (Working Samples), the qualification will begin.
